Florence Welch really made a whole album for mentally ill, lonely women in their late 20s-30s who have commitment issues, feel like spectators in their own lives, and struggle to fit into any traditional mold of femininity huh?
One thing I love about Nick Nelson is how, even when he’s struggling with his identity and his sexuality, he doesn’t deny his own feelings. He wants to act on them.
It’s never “okay it’s weird dating a boy” or “I don’t know how to do the cutesy thing even though I like you”, which I have seen in so many shows before.
Nope. Nick Nelson wants to go on milkshake dates and share milkshakes. He wants to give his boyfriend cute little handmade gifts and show up to his concerts and hold hands with him at lunch. He wants to take him to the beach and takes silly pictures and carry him around.
It’s never just about the “I wanna kiss a boy” thing. It’s “i wanna date a boy”. It’s wanting to share time and make him happy and being together. He wants to be cutesy and silly and cheesy with Charlie and he lets himself chase those desires. Even when they are hiding the relationship, the boy can barely hold it back. Touching pinkies at school, holding hands at the movies, going on a triple date (with people who technically don’t know yet included) and wanting to share, holding his hand while running through the hallways. He’s anything but subtle.
There’s just something so inherently romantic and sweet to me about how much Nick doesn’t just want to kiss Charlie (which obviously he does) but he wants to DATE him. With his whole chest.
